What is WordPress?

WordPressWordPress is a Website creation tool.  Why pay someone to update your website when you can do it yourself.  Once you get trained on WordPress you will be able to expand your Businesses website and attract new clients.  The Internet is expanding businesses in new ways.  You need a website and you need to update your own content, otherwise who will?

WordPress allows you to do this and its FREE!  You will need a web host and domain that should cost no more than $100 dollars a year. (bluehost is a great hosting company).  Why is WordPress great?  Once you do get it setup, then you, the business owner can update the content and connect directly with your customers.  Your own website gives you a voice to talk about your ability and your business.  You have a choice to have a boring website with stale typical talk about what you do, or give the world a first class ticket to your knowledge.  After all that is what blogs do, they scatter the information in your head into little articles that expand over time.  Then prospective clients Google keywords which are in your content and they find your website.  THEY FIND YOU.  But they can’t find you if you are not the one who is writing or in control of your own website.  Learn WordPress!  Get someone to teach you about it!  Teach yourself about it.  Of course you can look at my Coaching website – www.terryculkin.com for coaching and Products on WordPress and other Internet Business solutions. Listing your website in online Directories

After your website is built you have to list it.  You can subscribe to listing services or you can do it manually. Just submitting your website into the sOrganized Foldersearch engines this will not be enough.  Listing your website on Online Directories will help people find your website.    Listing services can save time and money, however you can also list your website on free directories. To find a directory for your business you can simply google for that industry and add online business directory to the end.  For example type restaurant online business directory  in google. From here look through and choose what is relevant.  Most directories will have an ‘Add your listing’ link.  From there create and account and add your listing.
What you need to tell the Directories?
Each directory is different, some just want your website and a description.  Others might ask for categories and keywords.  Have the following available when putting your website into an online directory:

  •  Your website www.yourwebsite.com – the main homepage only.
  •  keywords – your keywords. If you haven’t figured these out, then don’t submit yet
  •  short description of your business.  Your services and what you do for your clients.
  •  your email address – you might want a separate or alias address since junk mail might come from these submissions.
  •  you may need to choose a category or two. Think of where your business belongs.

Besides googling for your specific business there are directories of these directories.  Yes a little redundant, but here are two of these:

You will find a list of directories that you can submit your websites too.  You will also see advertisements for services that will submit your sites for you.
Once you submit your sites to some of these directories you will have what is called back links. Back links help search engines like Google to see how important your website is and how high it should be listed on the search engine.  This is one of many factors search engines use.
